Description
In the summer of 1960 Otto Klemperer was invited to Vienna to perform a cycle of the Beethoven Symphonies with the Philarmonia in the Musikverienssall.
The concerts were recorded and are issued here.
At that time the Philharmonia was a superb orchestra and Klemperer was considered to be the finest Beethoven conductor, specially after his EMI recordings of the complete symphonies.
These live performances re-mastered in 24bit/96kHZ sound from the original master tapes , have a much greater sense of urgency than the Klemperer studio recordings and allow a fascinating comparison.
In addition, we have fine performances of 3 overtures which were recorded at the same concerts, now reissued and available again.
