Description
After supporting John Smith in the UK on tour last year, Canadian songwriter Dennis Ellsworth is excited to be returning to the UK this June with his new album Hazy Sunshine set for release on June 9th 2014, supported by string of UK live dates.
Having already received support from BBC Radio 2's Bob Harris who has been spinning tracks off the album in recent months, as well as earning two awards at Music PEI Week, Dennis' live performances are not to be missed, with his performance at last years Maverick Festival gaining rave reviews.
Dennis' own contributions to music are widespread; he's been in Rock, Indie, Punk, and Country bands and has released two acclaimed full-length albums to date.
Hazy Sunshine is produced by Canadian musician Josh Finlayson, whilst the album was recorded over five days and wine filled nights at The Bathhouse, outside Kingston, On- tario. The album is a seamless blend of modern East Coast folk and rock & roll, with shades of classic Americana, roots and country haunting the edges. Always one to let the spirit guide a session in the studio rather than force things to turn out exactly how they are planned, the album welcomes a slightly more upbeat feel than his past solo records.
While Hazy Sunshine dwells heavily on the necessity of remaining positive, it's fuelled by the kind of dark optimism that's always driven Ellsworth's songwriting. There have been times that music has saved him, and times that it's let him down, but music has always been his truest friend and companion.
Dennis has grown into one of Atlantic Canada's most potent songwriters, with beautifully poetic lyrics and a veteran's sense of melody, tune and arrangement. His influences include Harry Nilsson, Elvis Costello, Paul Simon, Neil Young and Alex Chilton – but his sound is entirely his own.
