COLLECTORS 6-PANEL DIGIPAK SERIES WITH COMPREHENSIVE BOOKLET AND PHOTOS
Presented here is the complete LP Thelonious Monk Trio (Prestige PRLP 7027), which marked the pianist’s first album in a trio format. It was recorded over the course of three sessions in 1952-54, and Monk is backed by such luminaries as Percy Heath on bass, and Max Roach and Art Blakey on drums. Two songs that complete the sessions but were not included on the original LP have been added here as a bonus, as well as the only three trio tracks from Monk’s otherwise quartet or quintet Blue Note dates from the early Fifties, and his complete live set at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival, which was one of his very few recorded live trio performances.
