This collection and its companion volume, RELIGION IS A FORTUNE (COCD3532), present the first reissues of Sacred Harp singing since these extremely rare sides were recorded in 1927 and '28. Expertly remastered from the original 78s and packaged with rare photos, the sets also feature extensive notes by John Bealle & Joyce Cauthen. The CDs will appeal to old-timey enthusiasts, historians, musicologists and church choirs. They provide a rare opportunity to hear the music that inspired the Sacred Harp singing on the 'Cold Mountain' movie soundtrack. -
