Description
"Doon Where The Glennie Burns" is Alex Hodgson's third album for Greentrax Recordings, the first being "Jeelie Jars and Coalie Backies" (CDTRAX351) and the second being "The Brig Tae Nae Where" (CDTRAX382). They both received fabulous reviews and attention globally, whilst also making their way into The Queen's own music collection.
Doon Where the Glennie Burns invites listeners on a poignant journey to celebrate the enduring spirit of the coal miner's who once stood proud alongside his dad. As the songs unfurl and begin to paint their picture you realise there is another who Alex Hodgson has found inspiration from and paid homage to within his latest recording and that is Robert Burns.
ALEX HODGSON is from Prestonpans, East Lothian, close to the office of Greentrax Recordings. He carries on the fine tradition of Prestonpans song writing from the late Davy Steele. Alex was a finalist in the 'Burnsong' song writing competition in 2005 and 2009 and since then he has appeared live on the BBC Radio Scotland's "Take The Floor" programme. The competition also led him to represent Scotland in Canada at Folk Alliance 2012 touring with the band "kilmarnock Edition" which was made up entirely of Burns song contestants.
A passion for scottish folk music has led Alex to become a revered ambassador for the genre through his song writing.
Internatioal appearances include: Bahrain, New Zealand, France, Warsaw, South Africa, Malysia, Portugal, Italy and USA. His performances have graced many prestigious events including the royal family's annual "Ghillies Ball"
