  • Description

The Alan Kelly Gang are: Alan Kelly (piano accordion), Tola Custy (fiddle), Steph Geremia (flute, whistle & vocals) and Tony Byrne (guitar). So far, they have forged a reputation among critics and music lovers alike for their trade mark mix of driving instrumentals, magnetic harmony work and more importantly their impeccable musicianship and group empathy, with their ability to draw even the most fainthearted listener into the passion that they put into the music they play.
Small Towns and Famous Nights stretches from the fierce traditional, with tracks like: Dawn Jigs (Trk 9), Grounded Reels (Trk 5) and the contemplative song Journeys End (Trk 10) to denser arrangements that will stretch the imagination of the more conservative listener: Birdmaker (Trk 8) and Golden pipe (Trk 6). The opening track, Galway Reels sets a perfect tone to the album and really defines the bands pulsey, distinctive style.
The album includes 8 instrumental tracks and 3 songs, one being the highly evocative Connemara (Trk 7) featuring Eddi Reader on vocals. The Garden (Trk 3) is a Parisian infused take on a song of unrequited love that stems from a collaboration between three Americana songwriters, Tim O’Brien, David Olney and John Hadley.

"a true collective of musicians... their mastery of their respective instruments - sublime" Timber and Steel.
