Description
The fact that Kenny Baker was asked to lead the Harry James band after the great trumpeter's death is a testimony to the English trumpeter's ability. Baker came to prominence in the original Ted Heath band, leaving in 1950 to pursue a very successfulsolo career, not least in his own band called Kenny Baker's Dozen.
Like Heath before him, Baker only employed the best British musicians, such as Phil Seaman on drums, George Chisholm on trombone, Bill Le Sage on vibes and Derek Smith on piano, all to be heard here. These previously unreleased studio recordings date from the mid-1950s and show the superb precision of Baker's jazz orientated band. 22 tracks, a generous 77 minutes playing time.
