  • Description

Blowzabella is an English folk band formed in London in 1978. The band currently consists of Andy Cutting, Jo Freya, Paul James, David Shepherd, Barn Stradling, and Jon Swayne, who is the only remaining original band member.
It is estimated that Blowzabella musicians played up to 32 instruments in total, which include bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy, diatonic button accordion, alto sax, and triangle.

Their music is heavily influenced by English and European traditional folk music, and has inspired a variety of European folk bands, many claiming Blowzabella to be a major influence.

A Richer Dust is Blowzabella's fifth release on the brilliant folk label, Plant Life Records, which was formed by Nigel Pegrum in 1977 and home to artists such as The Tannahill Weavers, Whiz Jones, The Maddy Prior Band & Dougie MacLean.

Tracks 1-6 'The Wars of the Roses Suite'. In 1986 the villagers of East Stoke in Nottinghamshire decided that the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Stoke Field (1487) - the final battle of The Wars of the Roses' - should not pass without some sort of recognition. They held a series of commemorative events in 1987 and Blowzabella were commissioned to write a suite of music and perform it in the village church.

Tracks 7-12 are tunes and songs which the band played live on tour around that time.

Produced by Charles Gray and recorded at London's Milo Studios in March 1988. We now have a brilliant reinvention of the original 1996 CD release, which has been remastered by John Rivers at Woodbine Studios and is presented in a deluxe digifile case.
